I. Lockdown Drills
During district-wide lockdown drills:
- All employees must follow the explicit direction of the Transportation Office Staff until the drill is formally completed.
- The primary goal is practicing communication and securing the bus.
II. Actual Lockdown Event
In the event of an actual lockdown, the following protocols must be followed:
- Immediate Action:
- Keep all students on your bus and remain stopped in a safe location.
- Secure the bus: Turn off the engine, set the parking brake, lock all doors, close curtains/blinds, and instruct students to remain quiet and away from windows.
- Chain of Command & Communication:
- Await instruction. Your immediate and primary point of contact is the Transportation Office/Supervisor.
- Follow directions provided by the Transportation Office, who will relay instructions from building staff (if you are near a school) or emergency responders (Police/Fire) if you are en route.
- Campus Closure Protocol:
- If your intended drop-off or pickup area (e.g., schoolyard or campus) is closed by Police or Emergency Personnel, DO NOT MOVE until you receive directions from the Transportation Office.
- The standard contingency plan is to proceed to the designated other campus (or alternate secure location), unless the Transportation Office directs otherwise based on instruction from Emergency Command.
